Frequently asked questions
Yes! Not a problem, just make sure your 4 legged friend will be happy with what you have booked and that you are competent to manage them in whatever you have booked. Please note there is a £5 charge for bringing dogs on motorboats.
We can get very busy during the holidays so it’s always best to book in advance via our website.
We’re just half a mile from Coniston village on the shores of Coniston Water, with great bus links and parking options. We have electric vehicle (EV) charging points available. Find more information about travel and parking.
I’m afraid we do not take bookings over the phone, to check availability and to book please use our website.
If the weather deemed unsuitable by the boating centre staff they will contact you to arrange a refund or move it to another date. If you would like to cancel your booking you must do so a minimum of 48 hours in advance to receive a refund. Please read our boat hire terms and conditions.
We will do our best to move any bookings to an alternative slot given enough notice, some days we are fully booked so this isn’t always possible.
Sadly on days where we are fully booked, we may not be able to move your booking so you would lose the time on the water, it’s worth arriving early to get parked and avoid missing your booking!
You must be over 16 to take a single kayak or a paddleboard, if you are under 16 you would have to share a double kayak, double paddle board or a canoe instead.
You are welcome to swim from Coniston Boating Centre. Coniston Water is one of the busier lakes in the National Park, with motorboats, sailing boats and other craft. We recommend picking a swim route along the shoreline, so you’re less likely to be in the path of boats and cruisers. It’s also important to make yourself as visible as possible. Visit our safety tips page for staying safe in the water.
Check the latest water quality status at Coniston Boating Centre on the DEFRA and Environment Agency SwimFo website and look at signs on site.
